Our own Micaela Pond has been named (along with WofA!) as the winner of the 2026 Esther Georgia Irving Cooper Civil Rights Activist of the Year Award by the Arlington Branch of the NAACP. We celebrate and congratulate Micaela on this well-deserved honor. Here's Micaela's statement:
"I'm humbled beyond words to have received this award - and even more humbled by all of you who reached out. This award carries a name and a legacy. It reminds me that none of us do this work alone - we're standing on the shoulders of people who marched, organized, and refused to back down long before us. I carry that with me every day.
To the Arlington Branch: thank you for the work you've done for generations and for this honor.
To my WofA planning team, my organization, everyone in the trenches with me - this is ours! You do the work with me, day in and day out, for over 10 years now! The fight isn't finished, but neither are we." |

An important part of caring for our immigrant neighbors is ensuring that they have the resources necessary to survive. We have several such requests that have come through trusted partners. Please donate as you can.
- NEW Please help the Medrano family! The father was taken by ICE and the family needs help with legal fees and living expenses.
- NEW A is a community organizer, who is dedicated to helping his community, including providing reliable transportation and hope to a child undergoing chemotherapy. Please read about his incredible work and help out here.
- Farmville Detention Center keeps detainees in inhumane conditions, including broken air conditioners during the recent heat wave. Donate to commissary funds to support detainees through La ColectiVA here.
- Northern Virginia Immigrant Rights Collective (NoVa IRC) supports community members following ICE violence. Our volunteers connect with families/individuals to help locate their detained loved ones, provide guidance on preparing for emergencies, and connect them with needed resources. Please donate through their Go Fund Me or Venmo.
