CALLS TO ACTION

Calls to Action in 2026

The Virginia General Assembly will be reconvening on January 14th for its 2026 session. Please keep an eye out for Calls to Action (CTA’s) regarding various legislative bills that affect all Virginians. They’re very simple and take less than 1 minute to complete!

Tell our elected officials: Virginia Families are counting on you!

Virginia’s housing crisis affects all of us – but we have champions in the state legislature who are fighting for solutions. This 2026 legislative session, elected officials in the General Assembly will have the opportunity to pass groundbreaking anti-rent gouging legislation that will give localities the power to protect tenants from extreme rent increases. Our representatives need to hear from us now. Let them know that their constituents support bold action on housing affordability and are counting on their continued leadership.

Sign-On to Letter to WMATA Board of Directors

Since the state of Virginia provides significant funding to WMATA (Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority – aka metro rail), and organizations based in Northern VA serve many Metro riders/users – thought this letter may be of interest. The letter responds to increasing arrests and enforcement encounters involving our immigrant and Black and Brown neighbors in and around the Metro system, which many of our organizations are seeing translate into detention, deportation, and harm to the communities we serve. It calls on WMATA to take concrete steps to reduce harm and ensure Metro is safe and accessible for all riders.

  • Read the Sign-on Letter to the WMATA Board Chair from concerned metro area residents and organizations
  • Click Here to Sign-on (both individual and organizational sign-on is being accepted, with a deadline of December 22)

 NEW

Changes to USPS Postmarking – Impact on Mail-In Ballots, Tax Returns and More – one more reason to vote Early In-Person!

The USPS recently changed its postmark policy (late 2025) so that most mail is now postmarked at regional processing centers, not when dropped off, meaning the date on the stamp can be days after mailing, potentially causing late penalties for tax/legal deadlines. To get a true date-of-mailing postmark, you must go inside a Post Office and request a free manual postmark at the counter; otherwise, mail time-sensitive items much earlier or use online/drop-box options to avoid issues.
