Dear We of Action Family,
Happy NEW Year! Greetings from Merida, Mexico. I want to pause, take a deep breath, and say thank you. Truly. What a year to be in the Resistance, or better yet, The Rebellion—and what a crew to be in it with.
This year, We of Action showed up. Again and again. We stood shoulder to shoulder in historic Virginia elections. We organized not one, but two powerful No Kings actions—from Hands Across Arlington, and being on 20 bridges that day with 20 different messages and over 300 handmade letters, to marching in a literal parade of democracy on the Mall, alongside Senator Adam Schiff and Bill Nye the Science Guy (still not over that sentence, honestly).
We wrote so many postcards that our hands may never fully recover. We hung banners on our visibility bridges in the heat and freezing temperatures. We raised funds for our three Adopt a District candidates. We chalked sidewalks with joy and defiance. We crafted our activism (glitter may still be involved). We canvassed, phone-banked, knocked on doors, and got out the vote all over Virginia. We stood up for, educated ourselves, and protected our immigrant neighbors in the face of ICE. We proved—once again—that resistance can be fierce, joyful, and creative.
In short: WE DID THE THING.
Actually, we did all the things.
And now… we look to 2026.
The midterms are coming. Democracy is still under construction. Injustice did not take a vacation. And that means we need all of us—our voices, our bodies, our hearts, our spreadsheets, our signs, our snacks, our inflatable costumes.
So here are our unofficial (but very serious) We of Action Activist Resolutions for the year ahead:
- We resolve to bring a friend (or three) into the movement—because democracy is a team sport.
- We resolve to follow, like, share, repost, and hype We of Action on social media like the algorithm depends on it (it does).
- We resolve to keep showing up—even when it’s hard, especially when it’s hard.
- We resolve to fight injustice with courage, creativity, and comfort food.
We’ll kick things off with our first membership meeting of the year on January 26 at Clarendon Presbyterian Church, where we’ll be planning our next No Kings Day and setting the tone for what will be—without question—our strongest year yet.
Together, we can do this.
Together, we are doing this.
And together, we will continue to take back our democracy and build the just future we all deserve.
With endless gratitude, deep love, and a hug always at the ready,
Micaela Pond
