Inspired by the groundbreaking book of the same name by renowned scholar, Monique W. Morris, Ed.D. The documentary confronts the ways in which the misunderstanding of Black girlhood has led to excessive punitive discipline, which in turn disrupts one of the most important factors in their lives, their education. GVP Lobby Day
If you haven’t already, please make plans to join us on MLK Day, Monday, January 20th, from 2-5 pm in Richmond.  The vigil will be held at the Bell Tower from 2-3 pm followed by visits to legislative offices.  There are many gun-rights groups in Virginia, but they all come together for the Virginia Citizen Defense League’s annual lobby day on the morning of January 20th because they understand there is strength in numbers. GVP advocates should too. We are part of a movement that is far bigger than any single group within the movement.  Let’s demonstrate that on MLK Day. See flyer, below, for details. For those of you in the NoVA area, you may sign up to take a free bus sponsored by the Virginia Center for Public Safety.  Please RSVP to Julie Keller at [email protected].

MLK Day care package assembly for Operation Gratitude
Support Indivisible NOVA West’s Operation Gratitude collection on MLK Day. We have created an Amazon Gift List with all the items needed to create 30 gift bags for active duty service members. In the future, it would be nice to support local businesses but due to the tight time frame for this effort, creating an Amazon Gift List seemed the most efficient means of organizing this particular initiative. If you would like to order an item, please make sure that it reaches its destination (the home of INW member Luke Lorenz) by January 19th so that Luke Lorenz can bring the items to the bag stuffing on January 20th (location TBD soon!). Two additional items not included in the gift list: we could use some nice bags (something with designs or artwork) to put the gift list items into. Also, you are more than welcome to include hand written letters to the active duty service members that will receive these gift bags. For this effort, Operation Gratitude asks that the letters not be political so we can just let the troops know that the members of Indivisible NOVA West are supporting our fellow Americans and safeguarding our service members and veterans from cuts to their benefits as well as funding cuts that would impact their quality of life. Questions: Contact Luke Lorenz at: [email protected]

Monday, January 20th, 6:00pm – 10:00pm

We have an AMAZING line-up of grassroots activists, comedians, musicians, artists, vendors, and more coming together for a four-hour music and art festival with all ticket and silent auction proceeds going to The Blue Ridge Abortion Fund and other orgs focused on immigrant and lgbtq+ protections, repro rights, and environmental preservation. It’ll be a celebration of hope and art and community on an otherwise bleak day. Buy tickets here

Reception in support of Abigail Spanberger for Governor (North Arlington)
Abigail has fought hard for everyday Virginians (and for our democracy) in Congress, and she is just the person to lead us to another Virginia Democratic trifecta this November and serve as a crucial bulwark against the Trump Administration. Join us on January 27th to meet Abigail and hear how she plans to lead the great Democratic comeback. This is going to be a brutal campaign, and Abigail is going to need significant resources to get her message out and fight back against the inevitable Republican smears. RSVP here

Thursday, January 30th, 7:00pm
31st Street 2025 Wisconsin Supreme Court Fundraiser
As a result of the win for Justice Janet Protasiewicz in 2023, Wisconsin has had a major positive turnaround, including fair legislature seats, that led to a pick up of 14 Dem seats in 2024. But now we have to maintain the 4-3 progressive majority, by electing Judge Susan Crawford. Doing so should lead to fair mapping of US House districts and a potential pick up of 2 US House seats. Join us!
